A Proposal to Transform Portland Expo Center

Storyteller Studios is the project title (for now) for a proposal to repurpose the Portland Expo Center into a Cultural Heritage & Storytelling Center and a Film & Music Creative Campus that will celebrate the cultural heritage of diverse communities with a focused eye on the historical centering and economic potential of storytelling and culture particularly as it pertains to those communities with a direct connection to the center and its surrounding lands.

Community Outreach & Feasibility Report

Short Summary

From July 2021 to May 2022 Assembly Arts engaged with industry stakeholders and content creator community members to develop a report that highlights the needs, potential uses and structuring of the Portland Expo Center into a Creative & Heritage celebrating campus in North Portland.

That report can be found here.
Storyteller Studios is the holding name for a broader idea that would create a creative destination for people to work, collaborate and inspire here in the PNW.

You can read the pitch document here.

Study Presentation

An image based slide presentation was created to highlight the findings of both phases of the feasibility study.

That presentation can be found here.

If there was a great creative community center, now would be an opportune time to build it." - Community Study Participant

"It would serve as a home for an opportunity to create the contacts that would be reflective of our skill and allow us to showcase and sell our work on a grander scale. That would allow us to put some of the earned revenue back into the community and use some to fund the next project.” - Community Study Participant
